The Pakistan Floods
Just a few weeks ago Pakistan was hit by serious flooding. The floods began in July of this year on account of heavy monsoon rains in Khyber, Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, Punjab, and the Balochistan regions of Pakistan. it is estimated that over one million homes have been destroyed and over two thousand people have died since the flooding began. The United Nations estimates that more than 21 million people are injured or homeless, this exceeds the total number of people affected by the 2004 tsunami in the Indian Ocean, and the earthquake in Haiti as well. Ban Ki-moon; the UN Secretary General has asked for $460 million dollars in emergency relief. The Taliban have been trying to block foreign aid to Pakistan; claiming that they have the situation under control.

ReplyDeleteThis is an awful event and I believe people should help the ones that lost a lot, just like when New Orleans was hit with a flood. It's devastating to see people that are at a disadvantage and it's almost impossible to help/make a difference.
