Title: Fight in gay adoption case was ‘whirlwind’, Florida man says

Writer: Ashley Fantz

Publication Name: CNN News

Date of Publication: September 23, 2010

Length: 190 words

A. Main Idea:

Martin Gill and his partner were a gay couple living in Florida when they got a call asking if they could foster some children. Because they were just foster children, they all left and Gill did not want to say goodbye again to his children. On Gill’s behalf, the ACLU filed a suit that would take down the law that prohibits gay adoption. The suit would pass because otherwise the law would be violating the equal protection clause in the state constitution. The state has 30 days to appeal the ruling, and Governor Charlie Crist praised the decision to reverse the ban.

B. Conclusion:

In conclusion the judge called Gill’s actions “nothing short of heroic” and Gill’s foster children will be staying with him as his children. Gill checks the court website everyday in fear that there would be bad news but never let his kids be aware of the stress.
