Title: Students Across U.S. Plan To Protest Education Funding Cuts
Writer: Monica Trevino
Publication Name: CNN
Date of Publication: 3/3/10
Length: 415 words
A. Main Ideas:
Students across the United States protested budgets cuts on Thursday, March 4th, 2010. There were 29 states in which students decided to participate in this. The students ranged from elementary level to college, and graduate school. Many students could barely afford to pay for food and books since the school could no longer pay for these books. Classes were also being cut because of the money loss, because of this students have had to take 6 years to graduate from schools and are called "super seniors." These "super seniors" are not happy about taking the extra time to graduate. It is putting a damper in time management in their life plans.
B. Conclusion:
In conclusion the students protests were necessary to ensure their futures in school. They needed to graduate so they could achieve their life goals, and get jobs they wanted. They couldn't have done this without proper funding, and that's why they protested.
C. Optional:
I think it's horrible that we spend so much money on everything except education. It's astonishing how much money we spend on the war and prisons, etc...

ReplyDeleteEducation is one the most important things today. Without education, we wouldn't have some technology skills. The more people that receive an education the less people we have to worry about. The more time spent in college or in another school is the less time that people can help reform our country and economy.
ReplyDeleteFundings is very important to many students because it will affect whether a student will graduate or not. Because education is one of the biggest issue in US, people who have a education will help the society in the future.
ReplyDeleteIt is a sad fact that out government, no matter what politicians might say, doesn't put a whole lot of financial emphasis on education. Protests and boycotts are probably the most peaceful ways of expressing our opinions with such issues. However there must be more we can do.
ReplyDeleteReading this post made me realize the privileges I have has a student attending school. The thought of having to extend my high school career due to a dearth of fundings is unpleasant. In addition, it is very uplifting to see that students are protesting for the rights that they deserve because education is basically the foundation of ones future. Without a proper education, students will not be given the chance to be as successful as they could be with one.
